In my opinion, Hwa Chong is a diverse and vibrant community of like-minded individuals who each share the same drive and passion in not only our pursuit of excellence, but also giving back to our community. I think some of my happiest moments in school were spent around my friends, be it from simple things in our daily school life like talking about our week whilst walking to morning assembly at the terraces and rushing to CCA after lunch, to making memories during the exciting events that our school has in store for us every year. This is also one of the things I am most grateful for in Hwa Chong. Besides the multitude of opportunities provided to me, the atmosphere of tenacity constantly displayed around me, I know I can always fall back on a supportive community who care about and understand me. My experience in Hwa Chong has been nothing short of exhilarating, and I hope you walk to have this journey too!

365 days ago, I was in your shoes, deciding which school to join and I found myself in the Hwa Chong campus for the next 365 days. Hwa Chong has been nothing short of one big family. Being in the Students’ Council and MedSoc has exposed me to a myriad of opportunities, enabling me to step beyond my comfort zone and meet many supportive friends along the way. The unique Hwa Chong experience is one whereby the H stands for Happy and C stands for Community where we all laugh, learn and grow together regardless of your secondary school. The wide range of experiences and freedom here such as taking up a science research under the Centre for Talent and Development (CenTaD), and starting your own Service Learning projects will certainly stretch you to explore the boundless possibilities right here in Hwa Chong.

Exactly one year ago, I shared the same sentiments with many of you, “Will Hwa Chong be fun?”. One year later, I can confidently share with you that Hwa Chong is more than just a school; it's a vibrant community where passion thrives, friendships flourish, and ambition propels me forward. The robust school spirit and the caring, ambitious atmosphere provide the perfect backdrop for me to fuel my aspirations. The highlight of my Hwa Chong journey was undoubtedly the Orientation's campfire night—a magical evening filled with laughter and shared melodies that made me feel truly woven into the fabric of the Hwa Chong family. I'm grateful for the myriad opportunities Hwa Chong has provided me, from being in the Computing Talent Programme to being an active member of the Hwa Chong Students’ Council. Now, with the opportunity as the Chairperson of Hwa Chong’s Open House 2024, I'm excited to welcome you to experience the heartbeat of Hwa Chong and discover the richness of our community.

Across the 328 days since February 3rd that I have been part of Hwa Chong, the words ‘school is my second home’ has never rung truer to me than in my past 10 years of schooling. Hwa Chong has been a vibrant tapestry of warmth and comfort. To me, it has been a place where every corner whispers a friendly greeting, and every turn opens a window of opportunities for Hwa Chongians to discover and embark on. Attributable to the strong family-oriented culture in Hwa Chong, my journey thus far has been unwaveringly supported by loyal and genuine friendships. Be it the accomplished, dependable community of SNEC, or the most sincere, understanding group of friends I have been so lucky to cross paths with, it is indisputable that Hwa Chong has given me bonds I believe can stand the test of time. Being part of the Hwa Chong community has been the most wonderful, rewarding experience I could expect, and I am confident that it can be one for you too!
