School Spirit

It's hard to put into words what school spirit is like in Hwa Chong. But once you become part of the Hwa Chong family, perhaps school spirit is that indescribable warmth and sense of camaraderie you feel with every other batch of HCI (College) students as you sing, dance and cheer (SODACHE) en masse at our school events like Orientation and Mid Autumn Festival. Or maybe it is the sense of belonging that you feel in the school community, as you serve and lead in areas you are passionate about. It could also be the blazing sense of school pride as you cheer your heart out for athletes, with whom you are connected through the red crest on both of your chests. Simply put, our school spirit is the love that Hwa Chong has for you, no matter how you may experience it.

One of the key tenets of our school spirit is our SODACHE culture. It spans over 50 batches of students, with each batch leaving their mark through the songs, dances and cheers they pass down. Team SECCo (Student Engagement and Culture Committee) of the Students’ Council are responsible for spearheading school spirit initiatives, serving as a bastion of our SODACHE culture.

Catch them in these clips where they will show you what school spirit in Hwa Chong looks like, along with what they have been preparing for your Orientation experience, should you choose to join us in the place we all proudly call our second home. You may also check out SODACHE on their Spotify page, under the username @HCUnite, as well as the Team SECCo YouTube Channel!
